Abstract
The consumption of glucose in the brain has been attributed principally to the activity of neurons. In their Perspective, Pellerin and Magistretti discuss an elegant imaging study ( Kasischke et al.) that dissects the metabolic activity of rat hippocampal slices and reveals the intertwined metabolisms of neurons and astrocytes (a type of glial cell) in the brain.Keywords
