Function of Somatostatin in Pancreatic Islet RegulationThis subject is reviewed in detail in many reports.11–14 Somatostatin inhibits the secretion of insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin itself. In turn, somatostatin secretion is stimulated by glucagon, insulin deficiency, several amino acids, glucose, several neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine and α2-agonists, and several gut peptides, including vasoactive intestinal peptide and cholecystokinin (Table 3).
