Colchicine in Familial Mediterranean Fever

Abstract
To the Editor: Since colchicine was proposed for preventing the attacks of familial Mediterranean fever,1 2 3 over 350 of our patients have been put on daily maintenance therapy. The 84 patients, 13 with amyloid nephropathy, treated for one to three years have provided tentative answers to some of the questions posed by this new application of a time-honored drug. Attacks. Fifty patients had no attacks, although many noted sensations usually premonitory of an attack. In 28 frequency and severity of attacks were markedly reduced, through a 1-mg daily dosage in 67; 11 required 1.5 to 2.0 mg daily. Development . . .
