Low-loss dispersion equaliser operable over the entire erbium window

Abstract

The authors report on a novel design of etalon type dispersion compensating filter which is compact, low-loss, polarisation-insensitive, and trackable to any wavelength from 1530 to 1565 nm. In system tests we demonstrated nearly penalty-free transmission over 160 km of conventional singlemode fibre at 10 Gbit/s, and 40 km at 20 Gbit/s.
