Analysis of Needle Fall as a Means of Assessing Nitrogen Status in Pine

Abstract

Levels of nitrogen in needle-litter falling in October are related to foliage nitrogen in the previous October and to growth in the same year. It is suggested that analysis of needle fall could be used to monitor the development of nitrogen deficiency in pines.
