Cellular Deformability during Maturation of the Myeloblast

Abstract
The deformability of human marrow granulocytes was measured by cell elastimetry. Myeloblasts and promyelocytes were extremely resistant to deformation when studied with a micropipette 3.5 μ in diameter. Myelocytes were more easily deformed. Polymorphonuclear granulocytes were highly deformable. These studies indicated that cellular viscosity or surface rigidity is appreciably reduced during granulocyte maturation.
