Abstract
A mathematical model to study the oil film thickness between the cylinder wall and the piston ring of a reciprocating engine operating in the hydrodynamic or partial lubrication regime has been developed. An analytical model of a honed cylinder was used to calculate the required surface topography parameters. The model allows the effects of engine operating conditions and surface topography on lubrication to be studied in detail. Keywords
