Abstract
A chronological review of experimental progress in hypothalamic-pituitary control is presented in human and animal models. Endocrine diseases, therapeutic uses of pituitary protein hormones, endocrine physiology and implications for reproductive control are discussed. Isolation and analysis of 11 releasing factors by electrophoresis and bioassay are described. Development of electron microscopy and radioimmunoassay are cited as primary factors in the current status of knowledge of hypothalamic-pituitary regulation.
