Protein turnover encompasses the processes ofprotein synthesis and protein degradation. Because ofthe essential structural and catalytic roles thatproteins play in the cell, there has been along-standing interest in the effects of aging onprotein turnover. The purpose of this review is toincorporate relevant data published since the area waspreviously reviewed and to provide an update on thestatus of research with particular attention to thepathways of protein degradation.
