Congenital cricoid stenosis

Abstract

In [human] cases of congenital cricoid stenosis an effective method of treatment has yet to be found. In 3 cases with this congenital anomaly, it was first decided to remove the cartilaginous obstruction. In 1 case this was done endolaryngeally, in the other 2 by laryngofissure. The patients were intubated nasotracheally, using specially prepared siliconized tubes. Corticosteroids and hyaluronidase were injected into the lesion several times. In all 3 cases this method of treatment resulted in an adequate airway. A significant impairment of vocal function was not observed.
