Current status and prospects of farming the giant river prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) and the oriental river prawn (Macrobrachium nipponense) in China

Abstract

The current status of the farming of Macrobrachium species in China is presented, including the scale of production and with an emphasis on its farming technology. The problems faced and research needed for the further development of freshwater prawn farming of China is also reviewed. Finally, this paper discusses the prospects and future expansion in this sector of national aquaculture.
