The Need for Technological Advances in Assessment Related to National Educational Reform

Abstract

The forces of national education reform encourage the development of improved student assessment through adoption of technological innovations. Most students with disabilities currently receive much of their instruction in regular classrooms, and recent “Inclusion” efforts may lead to fuller participation in the future. The National Education Goals and the evolving standards advocate inclusion of “all students” in revitalized curricula and instruction. The Goals 2000: Educate America Act may make the majority of special education students accountable to content, performance, and assessment standards. The expertise of special education assessment technologists can contribute to the improvement of assessment for all students.
