Abstract
Pupils do not come into their lessons as empty pots to be filled with pearls of wisdom. Frequently they have formed their own notions for many of the basic astronomical events. In this article this point is discussed in the light of research findings, and is illustrated with some examples of pupils' thinking.Keywords
