Computing Survival Rates for Chronic Disease Patients

Abstract

The relative survival rate is a criterion for measuring the effectiveness of treatment for most chronic diseases. This simple step-by-step procedure is intended primarily for use in analyzing the survival experience of a small series of patients. The method makes possible the use of all available information in the calculation of long term survival rates even though some have not been observed for the full length of the study.
