A CASE OF STAPHYLOCOCCIC ACTINOPHYTOSIS (BOTRYOMYCOSIS) IN MAN

Abstract

At the present time the rapid advances in chemotherapy make it increasingly important to identify precisely the etiologic agents of infections, since in many cases the selection of a chemotherapeutic drug for treatment is as dependent on the nature of the infecting organism as it is on the clinical picture of the disease. With this in mind we believe it might be of value to report a case of a rare infection in man and point out the ease with which the disease can be misdiagnosed. T. S. V., a white man aged 21, married, a medical student, consulted a physician in the clinic on June 5, 1943 about a small mass near the anus, present for about two months and uncomfortable only in certain sitting positions.
