Stratigraphie du Cretace terminal et de l'Eocene en bordure des Mogods (Tunisie septentrionale)

Abstract

In the vicinity of Bizerte and Hedil, the Cretaceous and Eocene disappear to the west under the thick sandstones of the Khroumirie and Mogods formations, the Tunisian extension of the Numidian sandstones. The study of the different beds of the late Cretaceous and Eocene, from the detailed data and microfaunal identifications, has provided a precise outline of the stratigraphy and paleogeography in a region of incipient orogeny: recognition of microfaunal zones, age of the series, rapid variations in thickness and facies, permanence of early orogenic movements, confirmation and generalization of the transgressive character of the Khroumirie sandstones.
