The Effect of Salinity on the Membrane Potential of Sunflower Roots

Abstract
The effect of NaCl and Na2SO4 on the electrical potential difference (PD) across the membrane in the outer cortical cells of the root of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) has been investigated. The effect on the PD of a range of concentrations of these salts given as a shock treatment was compared with the long-term effect where plants were grown in a range of salinities for 2 weeks.
