Abstract
A new type of measuring head with a strip-line configuration is described for use in microwave attenuation measurements for moisture determination. The various design and operation parameters of the system are explored. The advantage of the system is shown to be that it is capable of measuring very high moisture contents without restricting the sample size. In addition, in its final form the sensing head needs only to be on one side of the material to be monitored. Some results are shown for fish meal and means of enhancing the sensitivity are described.
