Abstract
Industrial plants and accreditation laboratories implementing quality systems, according to international standards ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/QS 9001-9004, and EN 45001-45003, are required to evaluate the uncertainty of measurements. Manufacturers of thermal cameras do not offer any data enabling estimation of the measurement uncertainty of these imagers. The difficulty in determining measurement uncertainty is a significant limitation on thermal cameras for applications in industrial plants and cooperating accreditation laboratories implementing these quality systems. In this paper a set of parameters for characterization of commercial thermal cameras, a description of measuring apparatus, some test results on such cameras, a mathematical model of the temperature measurement uncertainty, and software for its quick calculation are presented. © 2002 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. Keywords
