BRCA1andBRCA2Mutation Testing in Young Women With Breast Cancer

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women younger than 40 years in the United States.1 Because BRCA1 (OMIM 113705) and BRCA2 (OMIM 600185) mutation carriers are at increased risk for developing early-onset breast cancer, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines recommend that women diagnosed as having breast cancer at 50 years or younger undergo genetic testing.2
