Abstract
The criteria for the diagnosis of follicular carcinoma of the thyroid and in particular of the “minimally invasive” variant are discussed. The introduction of a new terminology reflecting the indolent behavior of most of the thyroid neoplasms morphologically resembling follicular adenomas, and currently diagnosed as carcinomas on the sole basis of capsular invasion, is recommended.Keywords
