Abstract
The WHO Collaborative Project on the Detection and Treatment of Harmful Alcohol Consumption is described. Six centres from countries in both the developing and developed world are involved. The first phase of the project involved the development of a simple screening instrument for harmful alcohol consumption; the second phase involved the development and evaluation of methods of brief intervention applicable to primary health care settings.Keywords
