Abstract
Photoionization of solutes is induced in aqueous systems of bilayer vesicles by laser photolysis. The solutes pyrene and phenothiazine are located in the hydrocarbon region of the vesicle. Laser photolysis leads to the observation of the solute cation in the vesicles, and the hydrated electron e aq − in the water phase. The yield of photoionization increases markedly at temperatures above the phase change of the vesicles. This is attributed to an increased transparency of the solution at temperatures above the phase change. Keywords
