Abstract
A scanning tunneling microscope (STM) was used to synthesize Cu(CO), Fe(CO), and from individual Cu atoms, Fe atoms, and CO molecules on a Ag(110) surface at 13 K. Inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy and microscopy together with topographical imaging revealed contrasting bonding geometries for the single Cu and Fe carbonyl products.
