WATER RETENTION UNDER LOW BAROMETRIC PRESSURE

Abstract

There is water retention in the bodies of dogs and rats when the barometric pressure is lowered 26 to 98 mm. of Hg during a period of 12-48 hrs. This disturbance of the water balance of the body is accompanied by restlessness. The possibility that this hydration is the mechanism which induces reactions on the part of many animals and some people indicative of approaching weather changes is discussed.
