Abstract
National health examination survey data, based on measured weight and height, provide the best opportunity to estimate the prevalence of obesity in the United States. Results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) have shown that obesity prevalence varied by sex, age, and race/Hispanic origin.1-7 The prevalence of obesity has also been shown to vary by socioeconomic and cigarette smoking status.8,9
