Abstract
The purpose of this overview is to better define the field and boundaries of health communication, to further delineate the role of the communication scholar, and to identify needs for the future study of health communication. Selected health communication parameters are identified. Emphasis is placed upon the recognition and legitimization of the study of health communication and the role of communication scholars in the health field.Keywords
