Acoustic Analysis from Pentatonic Angklung

Abstract
Angklung is traditional music instruments from Indonesia made from bamboo. Pentatonic angklungs are angklung that only have 5 notes. Experiment was done to analyze spectral, temporal and spatial parameters. Spectral analysis was done by analyze the pitch and timbre. Temporal analysis was done by analyze the sound envelope and from τe parameter from the music. Spatial analysis was done from measurement of the sound energy by multiple microphones in semi anechoic room. Pitch and timbre were analyzed with FFT from 29 angklungs. It was found from spectrum signal that angklung has overtone 1.44 f0, 2 f0, 3.47 f0, 6.31 f0 and 7 f0 with f0 as the fundamental frequency. The scales of the notes are very different from western scale and pentatonic angklung has four different scale intervals. Sound envelope analysis show that angklung has attack time 192-179 ms and release time 346-902 ms. τe is a parameter that correlated with bandwidth frequency, lower value of τe correlated with wider bandwidth frequency. The value of τe from pentatonic angklung music is between 17-50 ms. The value was measured from six songs played by pentatonic angklung. Spatial analysis show that the direction of sound headed to the left front side.
