Abstract
Although thyroid cancer is the most frequently diagnosed endocrine malignant lesion, it is not a common disease. In the United States during 1986, an estimated 10,600 new cases will be diagnosed and 1,100 deaths from thyroid cancer will occur.1 x 1 Silverberg, E and Lubera, J. Cancer statistics, 1986. In North American reports of malignant thyroid tumors, papillary carcinoma (including mixed papillary and follicular carcinoma) has accounted for 52 to 81% of all cases.2 x 2 Hirabayashi, RN and Lindsay, S.
