Abstract
The finding of tumor cells in the peripheral blood of patients with resectable carcinoma of the colon and rectum is rare. There is a significantly high incidence of tumor cells in the peritoneal washings in patients with resectable lesions of the colon and rectum. Correlative studies of peripheral blood and surgical blood specimens, peritoneal irrigations, vein invasion, and cleared lymph nodes appear to offer promise in assessing tumor dissemination and our present surgical approach to extirpation of cancer of the colon and rectum.This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
