Remaining driving range estimation of electric vehicle

Abstract
Remaining driving range estimation, as one of telematics basic services, is especially important for electric vehicle. Due to many factors, the range is difficult to calculate accurately. This paper introduces an estimation method, in which nine factors are considered, including vehicle current location, remaining battery energy, road network topology, road grade, road link travel speed, acceleration and deceleration, wind speed, status of on-board electric devices and driver's driving style. In the proposed method, to save time and computing resources, range estimation is classified into rough range estimation and precise range estimation according to remaining battery energy. The processing flow is presented in details. Experiment results show that the proposed method can provide accurate driving range estimation and reduce the amount of computing resource, providing convenience to travellers.
