Spin-memory loss at 4.2 K in sputtered Pd and Pt and at Pd/Cu and Pt/Cu interfaces

Abstract

We derive spin-diffusion lengths at 4.2 K in sputtered Pd and Pt of $l_{\mathrm{sf}}^{\mathrm{Pd}}{\text{=25}}_{\text{−5}}^{\text{+10}}\hspace{0.17em}\mathrm{nm}$ and $l_{\mathrm{sf}}^{\mathrm{Pt}}\text{=14±6\hspace{0.17em}}\mathrm{nm},$ interface specific resistances of sputtered Pd/Cu and Pt/Cu of ${\text{2AR}}_{\mathrm{Pd/Cu}}\text{=0.9±0.1\hspace{0.17em}}\mathrm{f}\mathrm{\Omega }{\mathrm{m}}^2$ and ${\text{2AR}}_{\mathrm{Pt/Cu}}\text{=1.5±0.1\hspace{0.17em}}\mathrm{f}\mathrm{\Omega }{\mathrm{m}}^2,$ and the amount of spin-memory loss at the Pd/Cu and Pt/Cu interfaces as ${\delta }_{\mathrm{Pd/Cu}}{\text{=0.24}}_{\text{−0.03}}^{\text{+0.06}}$ and ${\delta }_{\mathrm{Pt/Cu}}\text{=0.9±0.1.}$ We compare our values with those from metals in similar rows of the Periodic Table, Nb for Pt and W for Pd.
