Chapter III. Effects of Deuteron Virtual Breakup on Deuteron Elastic and Inelastic Scattering

Abstract
The method of coupled discretized continuum channels based on the three-body model is applied to a systematic analysis of scattering of polarized deuteron at 56 ∼ 700 MeV. Effects of the deuteron virtual breakup on the cross section and the vector and tensor analyzing powers are investigated. Mechanism of the deuteron breakup processes is discussed with emphasis placed on the strong coupling between the breakup channels. Validity of the adiabatic approximation for the deuteron breakup processes is examined. Roles of the target excitation are investigated in comparison with those of the deuteron breakup.
