Posterior Cerebral Artery Territory Infarcts in the New England Medical Center Posterior Circulation Registry

Abstract
INFARCTS IN the territory of the posterior cerebral arteries (PCAs) are common and their clinical symptoms and signs are well known.1 However, the mechanisms of stroke and the anatomical distribution of PCA territory lesions caused by the various stroke mechanisms have been less well defined. Some published reports have selected only special groups, such as calcarine infarcts on computed tomographic (CT) scan,2 PCA stenosis,3 fatal infarcts studied at necropsy,4 and thalamic infarcts.5,6
