IoT for Energy Saving of Split-Type Air Conditioner by Controlling Supply Air and Area Temperature

Abstract
This research is the development of the Internet of Things Platform to save the energy consumption of split-type air conditioners by controlling the temperature of airflow and area temperature. The proposed system is designed for local temperature transmissions through the MQTT Protocol and uses the Temperature Analytics Algorithm to decide to switch off the compressor in the proper conditions. The temperature of supply air of the air conditioner and the room temperature of the actual operation area are taken into account to be the controlling factors. If the supply air temperature reflects that the evaporator is too cold, or the room temperature of the actual area is reached to the required temperature, the controller will then control the compressor to stop working. This causes the compressor to run less and save more energy. From the experiment in a room of 5×6 meters with a 56,000 BTU air conditioner at the actual working area, and the distances from the air conditioner were 1.5, 3, 4.5 and 6 meters, it was found that the energy saving rates were 28.42%, 22.85%, 20% and 14.29% respectively. The average reduced energy consumption was 18,496.74 kWh per year, and the average value was 55,490 baht per year.
