455 Vibration Testing by Using Laser Ablation

Abstract
This paper proposes an impulse testing by using a laser ablation. In conventional vibration testing by using an impulse hammer, excitation forces to structures have not been included in high frequency region. The laser ablation can be applied the excitation forces of ideal impulse wave form to the structure's excitation point. Therefore it is possible to measure the Frequency Response Function (FRF) including high frequency range in this method. A cantilever's FRF measurement by using the laser ablation is demonstrated in this study.
