Symmetric eikonal approximation for electron excitation in ion-atom collisions

Abstract
The symmetric eikonal approximation recently developed for electron capture is extended to electron excitation in ion-atom collisions. Differential and total cross sections are compared with other theoretical and experimental data for the H++H(1s) to H++H(n=2) system. The angular influence of excitation to the 2s and 2p levels is also analysed.
