Hyperthyroidism Secondary to Metastatic Functioning Thyroid Carcinoma

Abstract
A case of thyrotoxicosis secondary to thyroid carcinomametastases is reported. The importance of adequate dosage -40-100 millicuries I131- inthe detection of remnant tissue by the scinti-gram is demonstrated and the consideration of initial total thyroidectomy in cases of carcinoma of the thyroid gland is stressed. Pathologic studies show variation in the cellular pattern of the metastatic thyroid tissue. The possibility of thyrotoxicosis as responsible for congestive heart failure is discussed.
