Abstract
The order of production of retinal cells was studied in embryos of the teleost, Fundulus heteroclitus, using 3H‐thymidine radioautography. Cell division stops first in the fundus of the neuroepithelium and continues longest at the margin. In the fundus, the cells whose nuclei will reside in the inner region of the retina, near the vitreous, stop dividing before the cells whose nuclei will reside near the outer region of the retina. Thus the ganglion cells are produced first and the receptors and horizontal cells last. Keywords
