Anaphylaxis at School: Etiologic Factors, Prevalence, and Treatment

Abstract
To the Editor.— Anaphylaxis in children and adolescents is a medical emergency which requires immediate attention. Anaphylactic reactions caused by allergens such as foods, insect venoms, medications, and exercise may occur in susceptible children and adolescents while they are at school. Because children spend a significant percentage of their waking hours in a school setting, pediatricians should pay special attention to the unique features of the risks of anaphylaxis at school, as well as the possible obstacles to effective treatment.
