Les dynamiques géomorphologiques dans la plaine d’Itéa : caractérisation, cartographie et implications pour la recherche archéologique

Abstract
This article aims to characterize the main geomorphological dynamics in the Itea plain. Based on three years of field surveys, numerous cartographic documents, oceanographic projects as well as several stratigraphic sections accessible in the plain, this paper presents the results in the form of two previously unpublished geomorphological maps. The results demonstrate the predominance of the Hylaithos River in the Holocene construction of the plain and a clear dissymmetry between deltaic environments in Itea and a recently filled coastal marsh at Kirrha. The study of coastal dynamics, associated with oceanographic sonar and underwater seismic surveys, has also made it possible to locate submerged structures whose association with the ancient port of Delphi has yet to be discussed.
