A Proposal for a New Wind Turbine Topology Using an Electromagnetic Frequency Regulator

Abstract
This paper proposes a new topology for wind turbine using an electromagnetic frequency regulator - EFR. One of the most important points in the conversion of wind energy into the power system is the speed control, using for this, in some topologies, boxes of mechanical gears. These boxes present a short shelf life and often represent sources of noise and defects. The EFR is presented such as a new technology for wind turbines to replace traditional gearbox, resembling an induction machine, where the then known stator of the machine becomes mobile, combined to the turbine shaft. The purpose of this article is to validate, through simulation, the efficiency of the proposed system. Simulations show positive results, validating the proposal.
