Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common disorder of breathing during sleep that may have serious perioperative consequences. In the general population, its prevalence is estimated to be 5% to 9%, and it most often affects obese males.1 The prevalence of OSAS is higher in the surgical population and varies with different surgical types.2-4
