Abstract
A calculation of shielding of the crystal field from the 4f valence electrons in Pr3+ due to the polarization of the outer (5s)2(6p)6 shell by the crystal field is reported. The effect is shown to be a principal constituent to the discrepancy of the experimental and theoretical values of the crystal‐field parameters. Keywords
