Abstract
The hyperfine structure of several lines in the spectra of Bi II and Bi III have been determined. A method which facilitates the analysis of partially resolved line patterns is described. The level separations obtained from the analysis are compared with theoretical formulas showing the inadequacy of the present theory for the interaction of external electrons with nuclear spin. Keywords
