Scales of apparent force.

Abstract
By 3 types of direct scaling procedures, it was demonstrated that the apparent magnitude of handgrip grows approximately as a power function of the force exerted on a hand dynamometer. The apparent magnitude of a force applied to the passive skin grows roughly proportionally to the physical force. Equal-sensation functions were determined where Ss exerted forces on a dynamometer equal to a force applied to the palm. The matching procedure was also used to compare the scale of apparent handgrip with the veg scale of apparent heaviness. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
