The Clausius-Mosotti equation is derived for crystals whose particles are anisotropic and arranged in any lattice provided that all the particles are of the same type and provided that the principal axes of their tensors of polarizability are parallel to each other. The formulas are of special interest for artificial dielectrics used as lens material for microwave frequencies. They explain experimental results.
