Abstract
The analysis of neutral and phenolic fractions of the essential oils from A. mexicana and A. klotzchiana by means of gas–liquid chromatography was attempted. The mixtures of neutral fractions were resolved using preparative g.l.c., and identification of components was made by chemical, spectrophotometric, and n.m.r. methods. The phenolic components were identified by means of relative retention ratios and addition methods. From A. mexicana (−)α-phellandrene, (+) limonene, (−)β-phellandrene, (−) camphor, (−) borneol, thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol were identified. From A. klotzchiana (−) α-phellandrene, (+) limonene, 1,8-cineole, (+) β-thujone, (−) camphor, (−) borneol, carvacrol, and eugenol were isolated.
