Ultradian Rhythms in Human Performance

Abstract
An ultradian rhythm in waking performance on the order of 100 min. was hypothesized based on the period of the rapid eye-movement—non-rapid eye-movement intrasleep cycle. Errors on a visual continuous performance task (signal detection) over 6 hr. were analyzed for 19 Ss. Data analysis by fitting sinusoidal curves showed a peak at the expected frequency of 100 min.
