Lumber Yields from Sweepy Lodgepole Pine

Abstract
Studies of the effect of sweep on lumber yields from lodgepole pine logs and tree lengths were conducted at two sawmills in the British Columbia Interior. Recovery decreased as sweep increased in both logs and tree lengths and bucking losses from the latter were quite severe at one mill. Although the two mills had different recovery levels, the effect of sweep was similar in both cases.A rule of thumb was derived relating sweep/diameter ratio to lumber yields.
